Description | In the last fifteen years, there can be detected an increasing interest of new media studies scholars in how software forms our society and in the way it shapes our world. We can therefore speak of 'turn to software' in new media studies discourse. A symptom of this trend is a Software studies, the sub-discipline of New media studies, emergence. Software studies can be described as a loose set of research practices that has been transforming new media studies since the beginning of the 21st century. This publication introduces Software studies launch as an outcome of certain conceptual tendencies within the new media studies (Kittler, Flusser, Manovich, Cramer, Fuller), it defines the landmarks of its institutionalization, as well as fundamental methodological approaches that are defined in close relation to other new sub-disciplines of the field, Critical code studies, Platform studies, and Evil media studies. |
