Description The Bavarian composer Johann Hugo von Wilderer (1670/71-1724) belongs among almost forgotten authors. This study aims to present this composer and his compositional style on the basis of Wilderer's only preserved congratulation serenata La Nascita del diamante, the score of which is deposited in the Archbishop Castle in Kremsier. The originally anonymous authorship of music to this serenata can be unambiguously credited to Wilderer, based on the discovery of a printed libretto for the first performance. Beside the name of the composer of the serenata music, the libretto mentions many other names connected with the opera productions at the court of the Electors of the Palatinate at the end of the 17th century. A part of the text is also dedicated to this issue, interested in terms of the Baroque performance practice in opera.
