Description The paper deals with the role of “myths” (µ????) – from the modern point of view fictitious narratives – in the directly or potentially educational texts. The first part of the paper presents the origins of myths’ usage out of their usual frame of mythological epos, especially the ways in which Plato worked with myths in his philosophical dialogues. The second part then illustrates what new possibilities Plato’s myths introduced to the selected authors of various ages and genres, M. Tullius Cicero, L. Apuleius and Martianus Capella.
