Description | The chapter focuses primarily on two novels (written about 1900) from Brno which - in spite of being generally referred to as national or nationalist - display strong differentiations in terms of strategies of collective selfidentifications. One of the novels is written in Czech (Merhaut - Vrah?) and one in German (Strobl - The assassin). The shape of national self-identifications is interpreted in performative terms, based on Judith Butler's concept of "hate speech". |
