Description The paper analyses the piece of Greek shadow theatre by I. M. Chatzifotis called Karagiozis Ptochoprodromos. It shows the influences on it by the 12th century Byzantine collection of begging poems Ptochoprodromika and it deals with the parallels in the poetics of Ptochoprodromika and the Modern Greek shadow theatre. The different theories of Byzantine and even ancient Greek origins of Karagiozis and their failings are presented, too.
