Description | The chapter is focused on the topic of chronicles in the Late Antiquity. In the introductory part the concept of "chronicle" is delimited and put in context of other related historiographical forms. In the following text four basic characteristics of chronicles obtained by using induction method on texts from 4th-8th century are explained. Two of them are formal - the chronological order and the simple style, other two are content-related - the effort for universalism and the faith in Providence. |
