Description The presentation deals with the innovative format of the 'docureality' show, as introduced by the Czech TV series "Holiday in the Protectorate" (Dovolená v protektorátě). The talk analyses how the partly scripted performance of professional actors meets the non-scripted reactions of the lay participants, and how the voice-over and the presentation of the accompanying historical material help to achieve the shift from the local situation of the show's authenticity/artifice to a more general educational component typical of documentary TV programmes. The presentation also analyses the negative reception of the show by Czech reviewers and seeks to explain this phenomenon as the result of the audience's unclear expectations about this hybrid TV format.
