| Description | This work commemorates an important jubilee of Otakar A. Funda, who characterizes his philosophical worldview as qualitative positivism or critical rationalism, and thus claims allegiance to the positivist tradition in modern Czech philosophy. With respect to this tradition, the author emphasizes Masaryk's role in the penetration of positivism into Czech philosophy, which generated critical tension between scientism and humanism. She further focuses on the key representative of positivism František Krejčí, who, in his scientific philosophy rejecting metaphysical speculations on the transcendent, wanted to satisfy the reason as well as the heart of man, and build an autonomous morality on a natural basis. The special character of Funda's quantitative positivism can be seen clearly in comparison with Masaryk's religious-ethical conception and Krejčí's humanistic conception. |
