Description The publication introduces the most important approaches existing in the field of environmental education (EE). In the first chapter it categorizes the approaches according to the meanings they associate with the term “the environment”. Then it introduces approaches focusing on investigation of nature, forming emotional bound with it, and practical help, like nature education, inquiry-based learning, conservation education and the other approaches are. Following-part discusses approaches focusing on a place, like place-based education and interpretation are. The next part introduces a wide variety of approaches associating the environmental with problems and issues, for example the issue investigation model. The last chapter is dedicated to alternative models highlighting the importance of a deep transformation of students’ personality and the whole educational environment, like ecopedagogy or education for sustainable development are.
