Description | Josef Stern, painter of frescoes, altarpieces and oil sketches, was one of the most important artists in Moravia and Austrian Silesia in the 2nd half of the 18th century. He was born in Graz and studied in Italy (1739-1741) and at the Academy of Arts in Vienna (1744-1745). Latest 1749 he came in Brno in Moravia and became court painter of the family Dietrichstein. His other employer were Olomouc Bishops, he created his works also for various religious orders in Moravia and Silesia. |
