Description This paper explores features of block teaching of gifted pupils and compares them with standard teaching of fifth-year pupils. Block teaching can be understood as above-standard teaching of gifted pupils which goes beyond the common curriculum. The main aim of block teaching is to support the development of cognitive skills among intellectually-gifted pupils. The paper presents five key features of block teaching which are based on data gathered at a selected school. The paper examines each of the five features and demonstrates them in the context of real teaching.
