Description Cancer diseases are the diseases of the cardiovascular system, the second leading cause of death in the Czech Republic. The overall incidence of tumors in the Czech Republic are the cancers of lip, oral cavity, oropharynx and nasopharynx, although only about 2.1% of all cancers in men and 0.6% among women, but have a significant impact on reducing the quality and length of life of patients. Tumors included localizations in varying degrees affect vital functions - swallowing and breathing, and patients are often jolted from the current way of life and reach due to an eating disorder and speech disabilities to social isolation. Early diagnosis and proper treatment is crucial for the prognosis of patients with cancers of the lip, oral cavity, oropharynx and nasopharynx. In the Czech Republic still needed comprehensive modern publications dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors. Mentioned issue was last compiled in the monograph by prof. Cool in 1985. Our publication has therefore been written with the intention to submit a comprehensive and in doing so sufficiently detailed and comprehensive overview of current knowledge. Cancer is no longer the isolated medical discipline. The present monograph is the result of interdisciplinary efforts of professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer from different workplaces. We hope that it becomes a source of valuable information for pre- and post-graduate studies in medical school, to doctor otolaryngologist, a dental surgeon, oncologist and physician related disciplines. The biggest benefit we would like to see improvements in the quality and extension of life of our patients.
