Citation
Description František Mareš (1857-1942) was an original Czech idealist, which fought for his work against the prevailing positivism in the Czech philosophical environment. Mareš criticized Darwinism (from Mareš's neovitalistic position) as a mechanistic way. Mareš in his criticism argues primarily with insufficiency of darwinism for explanation of evolution, refers to the individual examples in nature that it would be difficult to explain mechanistically, and not least his reasoning also moves in a moral plane. Some points of Mareš’s criticism from the perspective of modern science seem outdated, others are still valid.
