Citation
Description The author of the present contribution analyzes the conception of the Cyrill-Methodius mission in the work of Frank Wollman, mainly in his significant monograph The Literature of the Slavs (Prague 1928, 2nd edition Brno 2012) he wrote as an assistant professor of Komenský University in Bratislava in the 1920s when he was also creating his own dramas and critical works inspired by his teacher Matija Murko dealing with South-Slavonic drama. Wollman understands Slavonic literatures as an entity united not only through its idea, but mainly by morhological closeness. In comparison with the one-sidedness of the Czech discussion in the jubilee year 2013 which was characterized by ideologized reflection and ahistorical extrapolation, Wollman understands the Cyrill-Methodius mission as a synthesis based on the Mediterranean cradle of European civilization.
