Citation
Description In the empire of Franks we can find the so called personality of law. Therefore we can work with several codes of various barbarian tribes. We choose the codes of Salian and Ripuarian Franks, further the Lex Baiuvariorum and the codes of Frisians and Thoringi. The focus of the chapter is to demonstrate the role of the law in the development of the kingship (the protection of the king, his officials and the church) and also in the development of the social stratification (the origins of the aristocracy, differentiation in the strata of the free members of the society).
