Description | At the end of the nineteenth century, the task of transforming Czech community into a modern, emancipated civil society emerged, but led to a crisis in contemporary Czech politics. The new goals in this changed historical situation were critically analyzed by T. G. Masaryk in his 1895 book Česká otázka [The Czech Question]. He refused national and class particularism and emphasized legal and ethical universalism. According to him solidarity is not in contradiction with the process of national emancipation. From that point of view the author is going to analyze in his paper the specific role of T. G. Masaryk's works coming from 1890s in the theoretical disputes, which have constituted modern conception of the Czech nation. |
