Description Today, the Zvrtek is known as a two-beat whirling dance, typical for the region of the mountain parts of Lachia. It is a common part of the repertoire of folklore ensembles, which specialize in performing the traditional material of the region. Nevertheless, in the 1950s there were only scattered notes about this archaic dance, and it lost its position within the active repertoire of folk communities. Neither its name nor its specific regional figures were known. Field research collector Věra Šejvlová managed to gather some descriptions of the dance through oral narrations of witnesses in the 1950s; further on she also initiated a presentation of movement reconstruction of the Zvrtek. The paper provides a detailed description of the process of working with the notes on the vanished dance, which enabled a complete reconstruction of the dance on stage. The paper aims to stress the important role of a conscious and reliable dance reconstruction, which can contribute to the enriching of ethnic and cultural traditions of a specific region.
