Description Development of information science is divergent in contrast with predictions of traditionally-based model. The field is in transformation. It extends its jurisdiction and concurrently obscures its boundary. It is growing more wider than deeper. Commentators argue for subject and nature of information science including its interdisciplinarity. The basic issue is identity of information field shaped by information wars and status of information science as metascience. Transformation of field is introduced form crisis point of view anchored in historical context. Formation of information profession is illustrated by cases of librarians, documentalists, archivists and information scientists. The peak of field transformation represent i-school movement. The aim of this contribution is analysis of possible development strategies with respect to dynamics of information landscape.
