Description | Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychological wellbeing (PWB) , grit, hope and negative life events (NLE). On the basis of the revealed correlations, the model in which girt and hope act as protective factors of PWB was tested. Method: The research sample consisted of 338 respondents, 209 women (61.8%) and 129 men (38.2%) in the age range 15-76 years (M = 28.39 years). The scales used were Psychological Well-being Scale (PWBS), Hope Scale (AHS), Grit Scale (Grit-S) and Negative Life Events Scale (NLES). Results: Correlation and regression analysis indicate significant relationship of all variables to PWB, while hope shows the closest correlation (r = 0.55; p 0.001) and is the strongest independent predictor (beta = 0.460). Regression modeling suggests a relationship in which hope and grit act as predictors of PWB in the context of NLE. Comparative analyzes of demographical factors showed significant differences between age groups and categories of marital status, however gender differences are minimal. Conclusions: All the variables included in this study showed a significant relationship to PWB. Grit and hope seems to act as protective factors of PWB in terms of NLE. |
