Description | The chapter deals with relations between different waves of Czech immigration to Vienna in the second half of the 20th century and describes their complexity. It does not only stress the confrontation and various conflicts among Czechs who settled down there but it also tries to, at least party, explain causes of the animosity, which endured in many cases even the fall of the Iron Curtain. Close attention is paid to important historical milestones which influenced a life of the Czech minority in Vienna as well as to various persons and their testimonies which sketch in a situation in the minority. Historical sources of this paper are narrations of members of the Czech minority, different articles in Czech magazines and newspapers published in Vienna and ordinances of the Austrian federal government. |
