| Description | The article is a close reading of Jaroslav Hašek's short story "The Suffering of Mr. Tenkrát". It deals with the criticism of petit-bourgeoisie. It shows that Mr. Tenkrát is not a mere passive victime of petit-bourgeois ways of his boss, Mr. Banzet who conditions him in order to marry him to his daughter, but that his lack of resistance to Banzet's attacks makes Mr. Tenkrát himself a despicable petit-bourgeois. |
