Description | The presentation focuses on one special and significant aspect of pilgrimage routes which is sculpture that adorned the churches along the four main routes to Santiago. Among the major churches as well as those marginal the remarkable homogeneity of the monuments separated by many miles has been stated. I want to focus on the similarities and repetition of the churches but only to the extent the individual pilgrim was able to understand and to perceive, i.e. from an anthropological point of view. The presentation was held in Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung Berlin within the workshop of Hans Belting's project "Iconic Presence. The Evidence of Images in Religion" held on 14th-15th September 2016. |
