Description | This study focuses on the archaeological remains of medieval ore-benefication and smelting workshops, which are considered both important for cultural heritage and are themselves extraordinary features in the landscape. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate and evaluate the use of non-destructive (or small-scale-destructive) prospection methods on a selected site on the southern bank of the Sázava river (Utín cadastral zone, Havlíčkův Brod district). These methods include archaeological trenches, pedological survey, coring, and soil sampling in an orthogonal surface grid combined with geochemical analyses and geomagnetic surveying. The study seeks to answer the question: How can we expand our knowledge of the proto-industrial metallurgical sites that influenced the structure of the medieval cultural landscape? Furthermore, the study demonstrates the efectiveness of the applied methods for research into the infrastructure of manufacturing sites and workshops of the precious metal extractive technologies in the Middle Ages. |
