Description | The history of Altai Urianhais is marked by a general shortage of archive sources. A short period of the separate Aimag of Altai Urianhais existing from 1923 to 1927 is an exception, when quite a large amount of documents still not covering the whole area of Altai Urianhais is preserved in the National Archives of Mongolia. In detailed protocols of three meetings of the aimag in 1926 and 1927, local representatives provided us with straightforward assessments of their internal situation. This paper deals with various aspects of self-description of the situation of Altai Urianhais in the kew moment between the Urianhais' entry into the (Peoples') Republic of Mongolia in 1921/1923 and the subsequent migration movement caused by the intensified communisation and sovietisation process after 1928 and the from-above directed changes of social and administrative order. |
