Citation
Description In my communication, I briefly presented the history of translation of Byzantine literature from its rather modest beginnings during the first decades of the 20th century, through the “Golden Age” of translating Classical and, to a smaller extent, Byzantine texts after the 2nd World War, this is when high quality translations had been published and disseminated in many copies, until the decline of this field around the turn of the millennium. I also discussed the modern trends in translating Byzantine texts into Czech. I attempted to examine some social, political and academic influences, which could influence translation work in a more general way.
