Description | Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus and his younger brother Gaius Sempronius belong among the eminent personalities of the late roman republic. In my submission, I pursue the historical sources written in the period of 3. – 6. century AD for historical interpretation and comparison of the information about their lives, reform activities and their deaths. As there is substantial time gap between the late antique sources and the era of the late roman republic, the views on the events and personalities can significantly differ from each other or sources from other periods. One can observe different selections of events and personalities deemed important in different times as well as different understanding of the terms or events as a whole. This shift can be demostrated well in the texts on the Gracchi brothers. |
