Citation
Description The lecture that was delivered within a workshop dealt with judicial trials in the Principate where magic, poisoning or divination in connection with the emperor or his relatives appear as charge. There have been scholars who thought that at least until a certain point the aforementioned crimes were prosecuted according to the laws on nocent magic (Leges duodecim tabularum, Sulla's Lex Cornelia de sicariis et veneficis). The author, however, is convinced, on the basis of an analysis of preserved cases, that when the emperor or his relatives were concerned, the offenses of such kind were judged within the frame of the lex maiestatis.
