| Description | In the archive funds of the Czech National Heritage Institute, there is a typewritten document of published text. Considering the fact that the works of Václav Mencl are among the highlights of the Czech (Czechoslovak) art history and heritage protection research from the period between the wars and in the postwar era, this part of Mencl´s legacy is now being published for the first time – in the form that is hoped to be close to author´s original intention. The appendices, particularly plans of cities and analyses of individual houses, were made by Mencl himself, and kindly provided for studying and documentation purposes by the National Museum Archive in Prague, in which a great part of Mr and Mrs Mencl´s inheritance can be found today. The photos used in the book were borrowed from the so-called old photo archive of the Brno office of the Czech National Heritage Institute. The selection was based on the date when the picture had been taken so that it reflects the state of the photographed object in which Mencl may have found it while conducting his field research. The commentary enclosed contains selection of the most recent findings in the field of urbanism and architecture of the mentioned cities, esp. reffering to the relevant literature. |
