| Description | The lecture dealt with the trial with Apuleius, as it is described by himself in his published defence speech named Apologia. The focus was on one of the alleged accusations - of buying fish for magical purposes, in this case, for delivering a love spell. The lecture comprised of an analysis and comparison of source texts related to such magical practices (Greek magical papyri, literary sources, Apuleius' other works). The aim was to show how Apuleius manipulates the facts to achieve a strong defence effect. |
