| Description | Archaeometric research into late antique glass has recently provided us with new insight into the organization of glassmaking. The possibility to support art historical research with exact results from the laboratory, challenging art-history to go beyond its field; for scientists this means that their analysis will be given a broader historical and social context. These results can significantly support a hypothesis that in Ravenna, from the fifth century a seat of west-Roman Emperor, an autonomous local tradition of production of glass tesserae for the mosaic decoration of the churches could exist. |
