| Description | The objective of this study is to evaluate which attributes of intermunicipal cooperation (IMC) are important in relation to the cost efficiency of municipal waste management, examining a sample of 658 municipalities (205 cooperating) in the South Moravian Region during the three-year period from 2012 to 2014. Most foreign studies have confirmed the influence of IMC on cost efficiency in terms of cost savings, both in the Czech Republic and abroad. This paper is a follow-up to a previous study of Soukopová and Klimovský [27] that confirmed the influence of IMC and showed that the institutional aspects of IMC are important in relation to cost efficiency. The paper addresses the issues in a more complex manner. We investigate other aspects of IMC (managerial, etc.) using the OLS regression model. The results show that institutionalization and ownership share are undoubtedly significant factors of cost efficiency, although there is a significant synergy effect of other factors related to IMC. In contrast, the results of the OLS model show that city size (populations over 20,000 inhabitants) and waste collection company profits increase municipal waste management expenses per capita. |
