| Description | The presentation briefly introduced the contemporary linguistic environment in Japan and outlined the polarisation of approaches towards the subject in Japanese within so called "theories on Japanese subject" (nihongo shugo-ron). Next, the notions of "conservative" and "progressive" as seen in the modern cognitive sciences were presented. Finally, an analysis of the discourse on the Japanese subject and the "conservative" vs. "progressive" dichotomy was presented. |
