Description | The unique legacy of the painter, sculptor, graphic artist, illustrator and poet Vojmír Vokolek (3/ 6/ 1910 Pardubice – 30/ 7/ 2001 Pardubice) includes a wide variety of paintings, graphics, sculptures and poems created during seven decades. His work changed from Pre-War Classical forms influenced by great icons of the European Modernism towards efficient expressions including deep thoughts and spiritual messages. The Post-War Vokolek’s mature work becomes a polyphonic creative blend of art forms. With exceptional sensitivity and using distinctive visual and poetic language, he combines traditional Christian symbolism and iconography with contemporary influences of Pop Art and Minimal Art. He accompanies his graphic art with libretti and experimental texts resembling phonic poetry. Vokolek’s manifold Post-War artistic legacy conveys unique, deeply spiritual, symbolic and humanistic message; however, its value has not been yet appreciated beyond region boundaries. |
