Description "I feel terrified of what I've done. I am terrified of the consciousness of how I found myself in jeopardy, and I point out that everything was caused by my art collecting passion and sudden and unexpected aging," said Jaromír Neumann in the main proceedings against him in the spring of 1987 lead for the participation in the illegal art and antiquities trade he actively participated in between 1977 and 1985. In a written defense against a surprisingly rigorous judgment, he finds for his difficult situation a symbolic parable in the M. B. Braun's baroque sculpture of the crying „Angel of Grievous Death“ in Chateau Kuks. The paper based on a newly released case file, three decades after the case is over, reconstructs the circumstances of detention, prosecution, trial and subsequent punishment of one of our most distinguished personalities of modern art history.
