Description The aim of the contribution is to discuss the translatorial choices the authors had to make in translation of the last remaining play by Titus Maccius Plautus that has never been translated to Czech, the Curculio (Weevil). The most tricky obstacles encountered in the course of translation were the question of how to translate the so-called speaking names, the names that characterize the individual character by either its form or contents; and various aspects of Plautine humour, such as language jokes and puns based on historical, legal and cultural phenomena that would be probably not understandable to modern readers.
