Description Aim of the research was to examine the relationship between generativity, stagnation and character strengths in older adults. We proceeded from McAdams and St. Aubin´s model of generativity, Bradley´s model of stagnation and Seligman and Peterson´s model of character strengths. Data were collected in 2011 (75 persons, 47-49 years, 43 women) and in 2016 (77 persons, 52-54 years; 44 women) in participants of Brno longitudinal study, who completed questionnaires measuring generative concern (LGS) and action (GBC), stagnation (BSS), self-regulation (SOC questionnaire), curiosity and exploration (CEI-II), grit, gratitude, hope (GQ-6), coherence (SOC), purpose in life, positive relations with others (PWB) and general ability of strengths use (SUCK). Character strengths were important particularly in the context of generative concern and stagnation. Purpose in life was the most important predictor: it explained 14% to 42% of their variability. Results also show that stagnation can be considered as a separate dimension.
