Description This article deals with the issues regarding a new form of money, i.e. central bank digital currency (CBDC), which might, according to numerous recent statements by the central bankers around the world, be soon created. This new form of money, called electronic cash in the title of this paper, will very likely influence the functioning of the banking sector and will represent a new monetary policy tool. As the Czech financial law theory has not focused in much detail on the issues relating CBDC, yet, the author set an objective to outline the core financial law theoretical features of this new form of money. In order to do so, he first selected several criterions, which he analyzed with respect to the existing forms of money, so that he could later compare the findings with CBDC. Last but not least, the author pondered how CBDC could be called in Czech and he outlined a several issues which, in his opinion, should be further analyzed by the theory of financial (mainly monetary) law.
