Description | I explore a linear contiguity constraint on the syncretism of datives, allatives and locatives called "Blansitt's Generalisation." A new contribution of this talk is to show that it correlates with a curious containment pattern such that the allative tends to be composed of the dative and the locative. The containment pattern observed is problematic for traditional theories of linear contiguity, but it can be explained by the overlapping decomposition, providing independent support for proposals I have made in an independent strand of work on a similar topic. |
