Description The present paper explores the main features of appreciative/evaluative suffixation which support the thesis of the liminal (semi-inflectional) nature of this morphological process. Our aim is to demonstrate that the similarities between appreciative derivation and inflexion are merely apparent or superficial, in that the same properties characterize prefixation (especially the intensive form), until recently considered to be a process of compounding.
