Description Selected illustrative texts from the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period originating from the Bohemian lands or connected with this area and available in parallel versions in multiple languages are presented – mainly focusing on different approaches to translation and other forms of dealing with original texts. Sources of different genres or text types will be considered (e.g. religious as well as secular poetry, chivalric court literature, Bible, didactical and moralising texts or historiography). The analysed material represents the most frequently used languages in the Bohemian lands of the period in question (Latin, Czech, German). In an illustrative overview some typical features of translation activities in a broader sense will be discussed, furthermore the evolving accents and preferences with regard to translation – as they are present in the text material most likely originating in our lands or being reflected here. A broader context of the discussion of the observed tendencies and specificities is given by the general and mostly constant main objective of translation - in conveying texts and ideas among different linguistic communities and cultural spheres.
