Description The author of the present article reflects upon the poetological impulses of N. M. Karamzin which he connects with the specific features of the development of artistic currents in the 18-19-century Russian literature. Karamzin concentrated in his work the elements of poetics of various currents including not only sentimentalism and preromanticism, but also fragments of baroque, roccoco, and neoclassicism. In his both poetic and prose creations he anticipated the main, dominant features of the poetics of the Russian 19th-century classical literature, especially in his small prose lyrical or lyricized fragments with a weak plot as a basis of Russian 19th century characterology, demonstrating in this sense his anticipating, synthetizing, and integrative talent.
