Description | In connection to main themes of our workshop, that is adventure, law breaking and adventure, one has to think about very rich lifetime of one of the members of the Komnenian dynasty - of Andronikos Komnenos. This very particular personality of the 12th Century Byzantine history played a very interesting historical role; firstly as cousin and friend of the later emperor Manuel I Komnenos (1143-1180), and later as antagonist in the field of political influence and power and also love affairs. Subsequently he became an exile and renegade, who returned to Byzantium only to become the last Komnenian emperor on the Byzantine imperial throne due to his cruel and controversial rule. |
