Description The reception of Leoš Janáček´s works in foreign countries is one of the most outstanding matters for current musicological research on the Moravian composer. It exists some recent and complete studies and academic contributions on the reception of Janáček´s works in England, Germany or France, but until now not so much research was focused on the presence of composer´s works in Spain. The great performances of the symphonic, chamber and operatic works by Leoš Janáček took place just in the main Spanish cities fundamentally during the second half of the 20th century. For example, the opera Jenůfa was premiered in Barcelona as late as in 1965. This paper is focused on the analysis and contextualization of the reception of contemporary performances of Janáček´s most popular opera in Madrid, Barcelona and other smaller Spanish cities to discover the critics, performers and other documentary resources that will point a true beginning of the academic discussion on this issue.
