Description The fortunes of Hradčovice after WWII reflect the development in the whole Czechoslovakia after the war. Even though, we can still find some regional and local specifics. The village was part of region with traditionally strong and stable support of the Catholic Church and People´s Party. The Communist Party only played marginal role which became evident after WWII. Transformation to the system of National Committees didn´t have revolutionary character despite the efforts of some inhabitants. On the contrary, the political course showed strong continuity with the situation before the war until the coup in 1948. The former elites was not questioned, for example. Modernization accelerated by forced socialization of the country meant a far reaching change of economic relations and ownership, social and professional structure of inhabitants and their life style even in Hradčovice. Considering the relations within the community and accepting the official ideology we can very much doubt the socialization was successful. Expected participation in the system was only confirmed formally by the inhabitants and although the occasions were limited they still preferred economic individual independence to collectivism. We can even identify some manifestations of opposition to the established dictatorship.
