Description The lecture covered not only the period of Ciceron’s exile (from mid-March 58 BC till September 4th 57 BC) but also the events of his consulate (63 BC). In its course he heavily contributed to the suppression of Catilinarian conspiration. However, his intervention against the conspirators did not comply with the legislation in force at that time. In 58 BC the tribune P. Clodius Puchler used the confusion about the intervention and issued the lex Clodia de capite civis romani, thus forcing Cicero into exile. In the workshop part of the lecture the students reconstructed the course of Cicero’s exile using selected excerpts from his letters.
