Description | Brno municipal police officially started its activities on December 1st 1866. 96 policemen and 4 commanders had been assigned to four districts with fully equipped police stations. The vast majority of policemen had been selected among former army non-commissioned officers while the commanders had been relocated from the i. r. police headquarters according to an agreement as after the recent re-organization and a shift in competencies there was a need for reduction of personnel. The daily press also informed the public about what the guards´ primary responsibilities will be: Issues regarding care for the safety of people and security of property, issues regarding guidance, surveillance near pubs and inns, lodging houses and common rooms, supervision at celebrations on Sundays and feasts, forbidden games and morality concerns in general, oversight of public establishments and parlours, coaches and porters seeing especially to the stated price, reconciliation of disputes and applying criminal law to prevent punishable trespasses. |
