Description This essay addresses the theoretical legacy and research contributions of Jiří Fukač to Czechoslovak music pedagogy and its postwar efforts to design a new model of music education for the youngest generations. Fukač's concept of the intellectualization of music education draws upon the ideas of Vladimír Helfert (founder of musicology at Brno's university), chiefly his notion that music education at elementary and secondary schools should open doors to music by way of rational and emotional understanding. Toward achieving this (as yet still unfulfilled) goal, Jiří Fukač formulated a theory of musical communication as a methodological basis for the practical application of the new model of music education.
