Description | The Münsterberg-Oels dukes of the Podiebrad House appeared in Moravia before the end of the 16th century, even though their ancestors played an important part in the region’s history before that time (duke of Münsterberg Victor of the Podiebrads, among others, was the Moravian governor). The Podiebrad dukes inherited the Šternberk (north of Olomouc) and Jevišovice (north of Znojmo) estates. Thanks to them, the Podiebrads quickly became one of the most influential houses in Moravia. The author emphasizes the threefold symbolic legacy the Podiebrads left behind, which indicates their strong integration with the Moravian aristocratic houses. This legacy encapsulates: (1) extensive family tradition, connected to the Moravian magnate families (the lords of Kunštát, Žerotín, Boskovice, Lipé and Dubé); (2) the royal heritage of George of Poděbrady, whose descendants ruled during the times of estates society forming in Bohemia and Moravia; (3) the connections to Silesia, where particular duchies were ruled by the representatives of monarchical families ruling in important Middle-European countries. |
