Description This paper briefly outlines the context in foreign language learning in the Czech Republic which inspired the creation of a dissertation project. The project seeks to examine the motivational strategies a teacher can use in teaching German as an L3 in order to motivate their students to learn German after English. This paper describes the theoretical foundation of the project and the first draft of the methodology of the intended research.
