Description What is the professional identity of university teachers, their concept of teaching and what are their pedagogical training needs? Masaryk University sought answers to these questions in a qualitative research project, which showed that many teachers do not perceive themselves as such. It also showed that they often lack pedagogical training, which is in turn reflected in the fact that these teachers are often unsure of themselves in a variety of pedagogical areas, e.g. course preparation and student involvement in the classroom setting. It also manifests itself in an unclear concept of university teaching. Masaryk has reacted to this situation by establishing the Pedagogical Competence Development Centre, which is organizes educational programs for junior teaching staff.
